• The Eurovision Song Contest 2020 would have been held on May 12, 14, and 16 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. But it was cancelled - a first in Eurovision history - because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Instead of the Eurovision Grand Final, the European Broadcasting Union and the Dutch organizers broadcasted an adapted program, Europe, shine a light, which contained all 2020 artists and various former contestants, in order to do what the Song Contest was born to do: unite Europe.
  • The theme would be ‘Open up’, and was announced in a beautiful video.
  • After a year of absence Bulgaria and Ukraine would have made their returns. Montenegro unfortunately withdrew, citing financial problems and ‘lackluster results’ for a reason. Hungary also withdrew - with no explanation given.
